- other
According to the Protoevangelium of James (2nd century), Anna and her husband Joachim were a barren elderly couple in Sepphoris (per later tradition) or Jerusalem. After long prayer and reproach, Anna conceived the Virgin Mary; the conception is commemorated as the Conception of the Theotokos.
- pilgrimage
Tradition associated with the Crusader-era Church of Saint Anne in Jerusalem (built over a Byzantine basilica) places the home of Joachim and Anne, and the birth of the Virgin, just north of the Temple Mount near the Pool of Bethesda.
- died
Tradition holds that Anna died in Jerusalem some years after the presentation of the Virgin in the Temple. The Eastern feast of the Dormition of Righteous Anna is observed July 25 (Julian).
