    Entered Sarov Monastery as novice; received monastic tonsure August 13, 1786 with name Seraphim.

  2. ordained — 1786

    Ordained deacon by Bishop Victor of Vladimir.

  3. ordained — 1793

    Ordained priest by Bishop Theophilus of Tambov.

  4. tonsured — 1794

    Withdrew to a forest hermitage; practiced extreme asceticism, including 1000-day prayer on a rock.

  5. other — 1825

    After vision of the Theotokos, opened his cell to visitors; received thousands of pilgrims daily.

  6. died — 1833

    Found dead kneeling before an icon of the Theotokos. Canonized 1903 by Tsar Nicholas II and the Holy Synod.

    Glorification with imperial family present at Sarov.

    Relics rediscovered after Soviet confiscation; solemnly translated back to Diveyevo Convent.
